David is eager to share the Gospel. Though uncertain of the exact date of his salvation, David knows it must have been very early in his life. God has been a daily comfort to him. “It is wonderful to know that He works all things out for the good of those who love Him,” David testifies.
David has been interested in missions for quite some time. “I would love to take the Gospel to unknown tribes. I believe that God has called every believer to share the Gospel with others whether it is in his own town or in another country.” With this in mind and heart, David would like to get involved now. Responding to God’s direction, David, a sophomore in high school, would like to serve as a trainee this year. |

Esther’s enthusiasm inspires others to want to serve the Lord. She received Christ when she was three years old. Since then, Esther has continued to grow closer to God. When she was 15, her dad heard about Good News Club, Inc. of Northumberland County. He asked her to consider being a trainee for the summer of 2007. After praying about it, Esther felt that it was God’s will. “That summer was an incredible blessing to me! It was an eye-opener to how many children are eager and willing to hear about Christ, but they have no one to tell them.” Though Esther was unable to serve in 2008, she feels God is calling her to serve as a summer missionary this year.
Esther is a junior in high school. |

Brianna demonstrates a growing faith in God. Raised in a Christian home, Brianna grew up going to church, memorizing Bible verses, and attending Vacation Bible School and Camp Good News. When she was about seven, everything she had learned finally made sense. With her dad’s help, she received Jesus as her personal Saviour. In the years that followed, however, she doubted. How could God forgive such a sinner as she? Repeatedly, she cried to God for forgiveness. Finally, she recognized that God’s love for her would last forever. She did not need to keep asking Him. So, at Camp Good News, she consecrated her life to God.
In the spring of 2008, Brianna found out that she had Leukemia. What a blow! Yet, she did not blame God. She knew that if she would die, she would finally get to be with Jesus. If she did not die, it meant that God still had a purpose for her. “Jesus spared my life and has given me so many opportunities to witness to people—people who have had cancer, people who . . . saw my shiny head and asked questions, and friends who could not understand how a perfect and loving God could ever let me go through this. It has been such an amazing opportunity to serve God. I praise Him for it every day!”
Brianna, a high-school junior, is looking forward to serving God this summer as a trainee. |

God has blessed Julie with a mentoring spirit. She recalls being a camper at Camp Good News. Then uncertain of her salvation, she responded to her counselor’s invitation and prayed to receive Christ as Saviour. “Since then I knew that Jesus Christ was in my heart to stay.”
That counselor inspired Julie to want to serve as a summer missionary. Julie’s service last year taught her that “one person can really make a difference in a child’s life.” One of her favorite things about ministry is the opportunity it affords her to influence someone’s life like some of her counselors have influenced her life.
Julie is a junior in high school. |

Anna demonstrates unselfish motives for serving the Lord. However, as a seven-year-old child, she prayed to receive Christ as Saviour more out of a desire to please her teacher than to be forgiven her sins. Consequently, she struggled with doubts for several years. When Anna realized she was looking to other things, including Christian service for fulfillment, she trusted in Christ alone for her salvation at the age of 16.
This influenced Anna’s decision to serve as a summer missionary for a second year. Not wanting to serve for the wrong reasons, she sought to know God’s will. John 4:35 reminded her that the children of Northumberland County are ready now to receive the Gospel. Furthermore, she concluded, “It’s not about what I get out of the summer. It’s all about what God does through me to reach others—particularly children—for His kingdom.”
Anna is planning to attend Verity Institute this fall and to major in Business Administration. |

DEBORAH BURGE |

Deborah’s life displays a spirit of humility. At age five, she knew she was a sinner and could not save herself. So, she trusted Jesus’ death on the cross as her only way to God. Last year, as a summer missionary, Deborah taught the Bible lessons and counseled with children for salvation. One time, so many children responded to the invitation that Deborah felt overwhelmed. In the midst of the chaos, one girl blurted out, “How can I be saved?” Looking back, Deborah knows and realizes that God convicted the girl. He gave Deborah the privilege of leading her to Christ, but God did 100% of the saving. Deborah recalls how wonderful it was to see not only children coming to the Saviour, but also to see God’s power demonstrated in their lives.
In the fall, Deborah will attend Lancaster Bible College and major in elementary education. |
